Consultancy, Structural Waterproofing Advice, Water management, Design for buildings and infrastructure

SWS can work with you through every stage of a project from feasibility studies and acting and advising on the advice of soil reports through to project completion. We offer a range of consultancy and surveying packages for our clients. If you want to outsource the entire waterproofing strategy and design, we can tailor a solution based on your exact requirements. This can include dealing with Architects and Engineers, Building Control and Insurance companies and on behalf your behalf throughout the entire project.

Water and Gas proofing membranes

Whether as part of a below ground protection system against water ingress or where gas protection is required, we can work with an existing design or create a design from your construction drawings. We are used to dealing with both benign and challenging environments. We can work with a supplied soil report or can commission this on your behalf. We fit systems to deal with Radon, Methane and other gases and pollutants as well as normal benign environments. We work with a variety of manufactures using both long established and new approved technology systems.

Cavity Sheet and channel Installation

Where a secondary system is required to deal with any possible water ingress we design and fit cavity tray systems, usually in conjunction with a cavity membrane. We can also supply and install the correct insulation systems specifically designed for use with cavity drain channels and associated cavity sheet.

Concrete Injection and repair work

Whether a structure is existing or a new build, problems can occur where cracks form in a joint area or at any point where hydrostatic pressure will lead to leaking in cracked concrete. We have expertise in dealing with both movement and non-movement joints. Tracking and finding where possible faults exist takes skill and experience, we work together with several partners who assist us with works. Our capabilities cover leak detection and remedial works for underground storage tanks and chambers, retaining walls and other areas that have failed for a variety of reasons. We work with a various types of resins, grouts and other technologies.

Pumping station design and installation

Many of our structural waterproofing packages will include a pumping station as part of the design and installation, and to evacuate water that may seep in at low levels to a structure. These can range from simple twin pumping stations common in many residential/domestic basement situations through to more complex systems with emergency back-up and alarmed/web/remote controlled systems for larger projects such as apartment blocks or commercial buildings etc. Many pumping stations may also be part of a grey water handling system for the structure, and pat of a larger water management approach.

Water bar and injection hose installations

There are some very good water bar technologies currently available. Each have their particular uses and suitability to task. We work with a variety of time and potential cost saving solutions. We are happy wo work with you, your structural engineer and structural drawings to advise on the best solutions.

Injection hoses use is now a popular way of either providing a waterproof resin or other chemical directly to and along a joint area. They can also serve to allow top up after a settlement period and to reinforce or repair issues later on. If the structure is of a complex design, or housing chemicals or other pollutants the fitting of injection hoses at the construction stage can be a valuable way of maintaining the waterproofing or protection of the structure. We can advise on situations where an injection hose system may be required or should be installed.

Lift Pits

Ensuring a watertight lift shaft will save money from the day it’s undertaken. There are many reasons that will cause a lift shaft below ground to fail, even before the total structure is completed. A common issue is leaks often start after ancillaries are installed by the lift contractors. This of course makes repair more complex unless one goes through the costly exercise of removal of recently installed equipment thus causing delay. Our pragmatic approach to a range of common issues will ensure that the lift pit is dry and will not cause issues later.

Common problems:

  • Placement of waterproofing systems in pit area
  • Incorrect following of design by groundworks team
  • Incorrect installation of waterproofing systems and waterbars
  • Damage by lift installer to integrity of the pit/shaft area

We can offer and supply:

  • Liaising with lift contractor to understand their requirements
  • Repair to constructed shaft-pit with ancillaries installed or pre ancillaries installation
  • Guaranteed repairs
  • Low start cost solutions that can be added to saving on initial cost
  • Fixed price solutions that come with guarantee and ‘no cost call outs’ to reseal if required
